Anuradha Singh

Founder
Samprada Apparels Pvt. Ltd.

My name is Anuradha. I am an accomplished female entrepreneur, design instructor, and business owner from India. In 2010, I established Samprada, a very successful clothing line that celebrates India’s rich textile heritage and promotes mindful, responsible fashion that is environmentally friendly.

Founder of three successful textiles businesses: Samprada, Indi Collage, & Sophisticated Leisure Clothing (SoL), with two decades of experience working with design studios and women’s sustainable textiles (handcrafted block prints, natural dyes, and various fabric techniques) in India.

Origin and Growth of Samprada:

Samprada is a private enterprise established in November 2010 as a sole proprietorship firm owned by Anuradha Singh, a woman entrepreneur based in New Delhi, India. The name of the enterprise ‘Samprada’ signifies common heritage, and it is involved in the design, creation, and sale of apparel for women using traditional Indian fabric.

Samprada has grown slowly but steadily over the years since it’s inception. Established with an initial investment of USD 7,700 (at current exchange rates) in 2010-11, it recorded a turnover of USD 247,000 during the financial year 2016-17. In 2016, a new company, the Samprada Apparels Private Limited was established with Anuradha Singh as the Director with the objective to raise capital, attract investors and facilitate employee benefits.

The fabrics used at Samprada are mainly handloom, hand-blocked printed fabrics, khadi, and muslin and are sourced from well-known traditional weaver communities of Bhagalpur in Bihar, Ajrak in Gujarat, Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Bagru in Rajasthan and Burdwan in West Bengal. The fabrics are handcrafted, naturally hand dyed and use hand blocked prints. In this way, about 25-30 community households are assured round the year income from supplying fabric to Samprada and 5-6 women from poor households in the Sagarpur area of Delhi are assured round the year home based work for making tassels, hemming, and stitching buttons. The larger production is outsourced to fabricator where we have worked with the same team for over 10 years assuring quality work.

The styling of the Samprada apparels is Indo-western, contemporary, classic and elegant and caters for women in the age group of 28-55 years. The strength of Samprada apparels lies in the quality of the fabrics used and the fits.

Over the years, Samprada had promoted traditional Indian fabric and designs from its three stand-alone stores in well-established markets of Hauz Khas Village, Lajpat Nagar and Gurugram spread across Delhi and the National Capital Region. It had effectively used the shop-in-shop model to sell Samprada apparels at the Neemrana stores in Delhi and Rajasthan that are renowned for conserving Indian heritage. Pop-up shows in well-established stores such as Tamara in Bengaluru, Sarva Lifestyles in Trivandrum and Studio Splatter in Baroda help display and sell Samprada apparels.

Samprada traveled throughout the country through nearly 20 exhibitions every year organized by the Craft Council of India and Concern India Foundation and the annual fair organized by the Blind School and the Chinmaya Mission in Delhi and through solo shows in Mumbai. The e-commerce portal of Samprada launched in 2013 has taken Samprada apparels to the online marketing space.

During the pandemic we have completely transitioned into the online space. We have grown in the online space by 268% in the last year. Our return customer rate is 22.5% and our return order rate is one of the lowest at less than 2.5% which speaks of high customer satisfaction for the quality of service we deliver.
